Come for the beach, stay for the Cooking and Massages!

While looking through shore excursions in Cozumel for our NCL cruise we came across a Cooking Class. We were bummed when it was not available through the cruise line, but made it our mission to find the location and book it separately ourselves. Playa Mia exceeded our expectations! When we arrived we were informed our class had to be pushed back to the afternoon due to a mix-up. Normally we are very flexible and would not mind but we were a little concerned as we had to be back on the ship at 4:30. The staff understood our concern and tried their best to move our class back to the earlier time but was unable to. However they assured us they would make sure we would be back in time and we were back to the terminal with time to spare. They also gave us complimentary guacamole as an apology since we did not have the buffet included. After some snacking we headed down the the beach to soak up some sun. Shortly after we found the massage tent! Two of us received massages which was the best massage I had ever had (and I work at a spa). the other two opted for Fish Therapy which was a one of a kind experience both guys enjoyed. Finally it was time for our Cooking Class! We were the only 4 there so it was amazing to have such personalized attention from the Chefs and the rest of the staff. They were very knowledgeable and made sure everything was clean. Chef was very patient with us and even showed up some new techniques to elevate the decor of our plates. The 3 course meal and never ending drinks were delicious! We cannot wait to attempt to make them on our own sometime soon. After cooking we all went upstairs to a beautiful dining room to enjoy our meals. By the end of our 5 day cruise all 4 of us agreed that the Cooking Class at Playa Mia was the favorite activity of the cruise! We hope to come back soon!

WONDERFUL Playa Mia Mexican Cooking Class

We cruised to Cozumel on 2/27/20 and had booked the Playa Mia Mexican Cooking Class for my group - 2 kids (11 & 12) and 2 adults (me plus my mother of 80) prior to our arrival. The online reservation process was easy, as was the transfer/transportation. We arrived at the port and walked to the meeting point in front of Hard Rock Café. It wasn't a difficult walk, but getting through the port terminal took some time. I'd allot at least 30-45 min. The check in was easy and the transportation arranged was a local taxi, paid by Playa Mia. No issues with that. Upon arrival, we were greeted at Playa Mia and quickly shown around. Our price included open bar and use of all Playa Mia facilities. We were told to be at a meeting point where we would be gathered and escorted to the cooking location. Upon arrival at the cooking location we were greeted by our chef, Moises, and taken to our station. His first order - our drink order :) Then the cooking began. I'm a professionally trained chef and was impressed with how well the kitchen was set up and how clean it was. From the moment he began, Moises kept my entire group thoroughly engaged and laughing. I wasn't sure how well the experience would go over with my kids and elderly mother, but they all had a GREAT time and LOVED IT! The recipes were challenging enough that I wasn't bored but simple enough for the whole group and included some fun tasks - like decorating your plate with chocolate and crema fresca. The food was high quality and the portions were very large - be sure to come HUNGRY!! After we had made each component of our meal, we were lead to an upstairs dining room where we were served our meal. The team was sure we were happy and had plenty to drink. After our meal was over, we made use of the facilities and swam before our departure time. The pools and slides were enjoyed by my kids. Unfortunately, it was a very windy day so the beach and ocean blow ups were off limits - but I can only imagine how nice it would have been if the weather was good. There were a ton of lounge chairs, so I'm sure we'd have found a good spot and enjoyed the water. As for departure, were we given the freedom to choose when we wanted to leave, with options on the hour only (3pm, 4pm, 5pm, etc). I strongly recommend not cutting it too close if you are leaving for a cruise. We left at 3 with a cruise embarkation time of 4:30. That gave us just enough time to visit a few shops while meandering back to the ship. All in all, I felt it was a very good value and would do it again. It was the highlight of our trip! Thanks Moises!!
